APPLYING YOUR BROAD CRE LEADERSHIP CAPACITY TO CREATE IMPACT
My client is a privately held, multi-entity commercial real estate and investment organization with a long-standing presence in the CRE industry. Operating at the intersection of commercial and multifamily assets, development and mortgage investment, the organization is known for disciplined execution, entrepreneurial thinking, and relationship-driven success.
The creation of the Managing Director position, based in the company’s Edmonton headquarters, marks a pivotal step in the organization’s next phase of growth. The business has reached a stage where financial discipline, operational excellence, and people leadership must be better integrated to support sustained performance and long-term value creation.
THE OPPORTUNITY
This is a partner-led organization — successful, entrepreneurial, and values-aligned.
United by long-term intent, the ownership group recognizes that continued growth requires greater centralization of direction, pace, resources, and priorities, while carefully balancing timing, execution, capital, assets, and people.
In this context, the Managing Director becomes the organization’s integrative force — aligning strategy with execution, resources and people. Serving as the company’s financial and operational anchor across a diverse commercial real estate platform, you will act as a hands-on, visible and trusted presence within the organization, guiding teams with clarity, credibility and purpose.
WHO THRIVES IN THIS ROLE
You are a financially formidable, operationally fluent, and emotionally intelligent leader who understands that sustainable performance underpins long-term profitability and growth.
You are someone who:
- Brings senior level and deep financial acumen and commercial real estate judgment, paired with the ability to translate strategy, capital decisions and financial insight into practical, on-the-ground and operational execution.
- Has progressed and expanded beyond a finance into other strategic facets of company areas, including operations, organizational planning and people management.
- Is comfortable navigating complexity, ambiguity, and changing priorities — offering exposure within partner-led or multi-executive, entrepreneurial environments — while maintaining clarity, composure, and forward momentum.
- Leads people with authenticity and intention, offering clear communication, providing context and direction, and creating an environment of accountability, trust, and psychological safety that champions growth and progress.
- Values well-designed systems, processes, and operating frameworks as foundational enablers of quality outcomes, consistency, and scalable growth.
- Balances decisiveness with empathy, recognizing when alignment, conversation, and influence are required before action.
- Is motivated by stewardship, long-term value creation, and the opportunity to build an organization that performs well because it is well-led.
- Leads decisively, addresses conflict constructively, and manages risk with insight — even when decisions are difficult or unpopular.
- Champions the company’s people, brand, and public presence through clear communication, diverse marketing efforts and consistent values-based behaviors.
You are not seeking a title or a platform for visibility. Rather you want to apply your special brand of purposefulness to help a company scale well. As such, you are seeking a role where your full capacity will be well utilized and respected.
What You Offer
You offer a significant leadership and foundation in finance and operations within commercial real estate or similarly complex, asset-intensive environments is essential. Along with this you possess CFA or CA certification, a post secondary business related education, an MBA or other education or equivalent progressive CRE leadership experience.
Equally important is how you lead.
- You exercise sound judgment and emotional maturity.
- You collaborate naturally across ownership, leadership, and teams — building trust, credibility, and shared understanding.
- You are skilled at building and influencing consensus, particularly in environments where alignment must be earned rather than mandated.
- You bring structure and discipline to decision-making.
- Once decisions are made, you plan and execute with consistency — acting with accountability and understanding resource allocation and people impact.
- You understand that leadership is not only about ROI outcomes, but about how those outcomes are achieved and sustained.
- You offer a resourceful, high sense of curiosity and an authentic approach to your leadership approach.
